Vaisala, a global pioneer in measurement instruments and intelligence for climate action, announced the launch of the Air Quality Transmitter 560 (AQT560), the gold-standard compact air quality sensor with a wide detection range — PM1, PM2.5, and PM10 — and a unique calibration system and algorithms that enable unmatched detection accuracy and efficiency.

The AQT560 stands out as the most dependable compact air quality sensor for measuring particle matter (PM). Its precision in detecting aerosol number concentration of particles within the size range of 0.3 to 10 microns is unparalleled.

AQT560’s particle measurement

The new sensor achieved superior results during the independent research organization’s review

As a result, the sensor excels in accurately providing PM1 concentrations for sources primarily influenced by combustion (such as traffic, residential wood burning, and wildfires), PM2.5 concentrations dominated by long-range transport, and PM10 concentrations driven by abrasive processes (such as road dust, sandstorms, construction, and mining).

The AQT560’s particle measurement performance was tested against reference-grade sensors by the Norwegian Institute for Air Research (NILU). The new sensor achieved superior results during the independent research organization’s review, with performance rated as “very good,” especially regarding PM10 detection.

Safety standards and sustainability targets

The quality of the air we breathe has an incredible impact on people’s wellness and is an essential factor in creating healthier communities. From large cities to small industrial businesses, the right air quality measurements empower decision-makers to meet health and safety standards and sustainability targets so that cities, businesses, and organizations can thrive," said Paul Melin, Vice President of Products and Technology at Vaisala.

He adds, “Delivering unsurpassed reliability and accuracy, AQT560 plays a vital role in not only helping organizations optimize their operations while complying with environmental regulations but also ensuring the safety of citizens, employees, and communities as a whole.”

Highlights of the AQT560

Leveraging Vaisala’s intelligent humidity control system and algorithms, the sensor detects the most important pollutant gases in ambient air, such as NO, NO2, CO, and O3.

Additional highlights of the AQT560 include:

  • Most reliable sensor for networks: Factory-calibrated to Vaisala’s exclusive standards, allowing for consistent network insights.
  • Innovative design for world-class dependability: Cutting-edge optical components and rotary vane pump provide optimal flow management and control, delivering trustworthy intelligence.
  • Hyperlocal insights and forecasting accuracy: Combine a network of AQT560 sensors with Vaisala’s unique modeling capabilities to cost-effectively create localized intelligent observations and forecasts.
  • Data maximization: The sensor’s compact size is ideal for supplemental air quality monitoring, including traffic emissions and near-source monitoring (e.g., mining sites and construction projects).
  • Flexible plug-and-play connectivity options: Can be used standalone or with existing networks.
  • Part of Vaisala’s end-to-end air quality monitoring offering: Modular scalability based on needs, including sensors, stations, cloud services, modeling, and forecasting.

Setting the bar on environmental sensing, Vaisala’s proven track record demonstrates how the company develops sensors so reliable and accurate they are used in the most high-profile missions, including measurement on Mars.
