YORK®, a distinguished brand under Bosch Home Comfort Group, has successfully surpassed the U.S. Department of Energy's (DOE) rigorous laboratory testing for the Commercial Building HVAC Technology Challenge with its advanced rooftop unit (RTU). The company has introduced a cutting-edge, all-electric 15-ton heat pump capable of providing reliable performance even at temperatures as low as -10°F, thanks to its simultaneous compressor and electric heating design. This innovation not only enhances efficiency but also supports decarbonization efforts by reducing reliance on electric resistance heating.
Versatile Installation Options
The innovative YORK RTU is built on a new platform that facilitates its use in both replacement and new installation scenarios. Its robust control system allows seamless integration with a wide range of Building Automation Systems (BAS), enhancing application versatility. This includes demand response capabilities that enable remote management of electric heat run time, originating from the Choice rooftop platform.
Diverse Choice RTU Options
The Choice platform is engineered to accommodate about 70% of the existing competitive installed base, minimizing the need for expensive transition curbs. It provides a spectrum of efficiency levels, from basic models to those qualifying for energy rebates. Additionally, the direct drive supply fan enhances unit efficiency by eliminating belt losses and improving serviceability. This feature allows contractors easier access and the ability to adjust fan speed to align with specific project requirements.
DOE Challenge and Performance
David Budzinski, Global Deputy CEO and President Americas of Bosch Home Comfort Group, emphasized, “The DOE Commercial Building HVAC Technology Challenge has allowed Bosch Home Comfort Group to showcase our expanded engineering capabilities to support our strategic objective of innovation, efficiency and decarbonization.” He added, “We are proud to participate in this challenge and are eager to take our offerings to the next level of performance.”
Meeting DOE Performance Criteria
YORK products, produced in Norman, Oklahoma, not only meet but exceed DOE performance criteria, highlighting U.S. leadership in energy efficiency. This achievement enhances affordability for consumers and boosts workforce skills, contributing to America's sustained competitiveness. As part of the ongoing challenge, the YORK RTU is set to undergo a field trial later this year to evaluate its real-world efficacy in extreme cold weather conditions.
YORK®, a premium brand part of the Bosch Home Comfort Group, has passed and exceeded the laboratory testing phase of the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Commercial Building HVAC Technology Challenge for its rooftop unit (RTU).
YORK developed an innovative, all-electric 15-ton heat pump, which allows for simultaneous compressor and electric heating to provide comfortable performance down to -10°F, while also minimizing the use of electric resistance heating. As a result, it helps to improve efficiency and support decarbonization benefits.
