Carrefour has announced a significant initiative to promote reading by aiming to sell 30 million books priced at 1 euro each by the year 2030. This effort is part of the company's broader commitment to address issues of illiteracy and dyslexia.
By focusing on making reading more accessible, particularly for young children, Carrefour seeks to contribute positively to society by encouraging reading habits.
Partnership with Rue Des Ecoles
In collaboration with Rue Des Ecoles, Carrefour is launching a series of 20 books for children aged 3 to 8, each priced at 1 euro. This collection is designed to inspire a love for reading in young minds, an essential social goal and a step towards inclusion.
Additionally, the first 100,000 buyers of this collection will receive a year's access to a digital library with 100 digital books, thereby enhancing their reading experience.
Inclusive Reading Initiatives
Carrefour has included a book specifically adapted for dyslexic children in this year's offering
Recognizing that 5% of children face difficulties with reading or writing, Carrefour has included a book specifically adapted for dyslexic children in this year's offering.
Furthermore, on April 9, Carrefour is organizing 30-minute reading workshops in 250 stores across France, anticipating the participation of around 5,000 children.
Story Competition and Cultural Offerings
To further engage its audience, Carrefour is hosting an invention competition on the Ma Communauté Carrefour website, which has over 700,000 members.
Participants will submit stories centered on the theme of "Fruits and Vegetables," with the winning entry to be published in a 1-euro book in 2026.
Global Reach by 2030
By 2030, Carrefour plans to expand the "Retrouvons le goût à la lecture" program globally, reinforcing its commitment to democratizing reading.
The company sees the ability to read as a crucial skill for social integration and aims to contribute to this through its diverse cultural offerings.
