EnergySolutions LLC announced that it received unanimous approval from the Wisconsin Public Service Commission (PSC) to acquire the Kewaunee Power Station from Dominion Nuclear Projects Inc. 

We appreciate the PSC’s careful and detailed consideration of this matter. We also appreciate the PCS’s focus on safety and adherence to the commercial principles underlying Dominion’s acquisition of Kewaunee 17 years ago,” stated Ken Robuck, President and CEO of EnergySolutions.

NRC license transfer

We will immediately begin moving forward with the safe and effective decommissioning of the Kewaunee Power Station.”

This decision follows the approval of the Nuclear Regulatory Commission’s (NRC) license transfer in March.

Kewaunee decommissioning project

The Kewaunee decommissioning project is the fourth active decommissioning project for EnergySolutions.

Additional projects include the San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station (SONGS) in California, the Fort Calhoun Nuclear Plant in Nebraska, and Three Mile Island Unit 2 (TMI-2) in Pennsylvania.
